Did you know: the term milkshake was first used in print in 1885, representing an alcoholic drink made of cream, eggs and whiskey. In the early 1900’s it became the non-alcoholic, ice cream drink we know today. Craft brewers have made popular the “milkshake beer” style – for example a milkshake IPA – by increasing the volume of fruit additions, unfermentable sugars/lactose and adjuncts such as vanilla. This creates a creamy, full-bodied texture similar to the traditional milkshake.
